With passion and courage, anyone can make a mark in their chosen field, and entrepreneur Nidhi Yadav’s journey is a shining example. Formerly a software engineer at Deloitte, Nidhi is now the founder and owner of Aks Clothing, a renowned ethnic fashion brand valued at over Rs 200 crore.
The Birth Of Aks Clothing
The venture began in Gurugram in 2014 with just Rs 3.5 lakh and a big dream: to offer stylish yet affordable ethnic wear for every Indian woman. Within a few years, Aks Clothing became a favourite on major online platforms such as Myntra, Jabong, and Limeroad.
Collaborating with three production units in Jaipur enhanced both supply and quality, and the company was later incorporated as Yuvdhi Apparels Pvt. Ltd. According to Tracxn, the founders now hold an 80% stake (worth Rs 86.4 crore), while investors own the remaining 20% (Rs 21.6 crore).
In FY24, the company generated around Rs 300 crore in revenue, with a target of Rs 500 crore by 2025.
Early Life And Inspiration
Born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Nidhi is the daughter of lawyers Karan Singh Yadav and Rajbala Yadav, whose discipline and confidence inspired her determination. After completing her engineering studies, she initially pursued a secure career in technology, but soon realised her true passion lay in fashion.
She turned down a job opportunity in Italy to return to India, be close to her family, and follow her dreams.
Education And Market Research
Nidhi studied at the prestigious Polimoda Fashion School in Florence, Italy, before researching the Indian fashion market and founding Aks Clothing.
Drawing inspiration from Zara’s model, she introduced the concept of launching a new collection every fortnight, a strategy that continues today and helped Aks quickly establish itself in India’s e-commerce market.
Challenges And Growth
The early days were far from easy. Operating from her 2BHK flat in Gurugram, Nidhi managed packaging, inventory, and orders herself. Her husband, Satpal Yadav, then an operations manager at Jabong, supported her extensively, while the couple often travelled to Jaipur with their young daughter to source materials.
In 2015, they rented a basement to expand production. Even after raising Rs 19.92 crore in Series A funding from Myntra, Nidhi chose to grow the brand through her own hard work and market insight rather than relying on further investment.
As she says, “If you believe in yourself and move in the right direction, nothing is impossible.”
Today, Aks Clothing stands as a symbol of trust and style for women across India.
