There’s a seemingly endless supply of web hosting services out there and that can make knowing which one to sign up for a bit tricky. Right now, I’m looking at Hostinger and Bluehost. Both services are popular names in the field but each offers a slightly different experience.
It’s worth spending some time learning about the main features available, so you can confidently find the right plan for your needs. It’s possible to sign up to each for just one month but it’s a smarter (and financially prudent) idea to tie yourself in for an extended period of time. Here’s what you need to know to make the best decision for your situation, whether you want a web host for personal or business needs.

How I tested
I spent about 10 days using both services. I signed up for them and went through all the steps you would take to see what was involved. That meant looking at the different ways a site can be created using the relevant tools, and also checking how easy it was to make changes, or get in contact with support. I also looked at their features and how they compared to each other and generally what’s expected from web hosting companies.

Hostinger
Hostinger is a strong go-to option for everyone. It offers monthly, yearly, and two-yearly plans with better discounts for the longer periods. It’s simple to use with traditional website uploading options, AI-assisted designs and more. It also offers extensive alternatives to web hosting such as VPS hosting which can lead to AI and automation options like OpenClaw and n8n.
Bluehost
Bluehost is similar to Hostinger in that it offers more than just regular web hosting. There’s VPS hosting (with OpenClaw and N8N available), WooCommerce hosting, and even a professional service for those who want a tailor-made website. It’s competitively priced and you can commit to three years for a good discount if you know what lies ahead. It’s simple to figure out too, making it a strong choice.
1. Hostinger vs Bluehost: Pricing and plans

Cons: More expensive; basic plan only offers 10GB of storage
Understandably, Hostinger and Bluehost both gear their best prices towards longer-term subscriptions. It makes sense. After all, who’s launching a website for just one month? When it comes to Standard web hosting, Hostinger starts at the equivalent of £1.49 per month (working out at £71.52 for two years) with the more popular option being its Premium plan for £2.99 per month (£143.52 for two years) and offering 20GB of SSD storage, up to three websites, two mailboxes per website for free for a year, and a free domain for one year. If you want ecommerce and faster NVMe storage, the Business plan for £3.99 per month (£191.52 for two years) is the better option.
All of Bluehost’s plans are either monthly, 12 months, 36 months, or 48 months, so it’s not quite a direct comparison but it does promise good value. The most basic plan is the Starter package for £2.29 per month for 36 months, it only offers 10GB of storage but it’s faster NVMe-based storage. It also offers AI site creation tools, and a free domain for the first year. For £3.99 per month, you can increase storage space to 50GB with the eCommerce Essentials plan increasing that to 100GB and also offering ecommerce tools, all for £7.49 per month.
Both are closely matched with their standard web hosting plans. Hostinger and Bluehost also have VPS hosting options, OpenClaw and n8n plans, and dedicated hosting if you need the ultimate solution for your business. It’s worth spending some time investigating which solution is best for you as some people may prefer the flexibility of VPS hosting. It essentially gives you access to a server rather than just web hosting so you could use it for many more features than a website such as game server hosting or n8n automation.

Hostinger and Bluehost are equally feature-packed, offering functionality that works well for both beginners and more advanced users. I have very few complaints about either service thanks to that.
Hostinger divides things up so it’s easy to set up your site. For those designing a website offline, it’s simple enough to upload files via the file manager or FTP. However, if you want Hostinger to create a simple site for you, that’s very easy to do too. There’s the WordPress-based website builder which can get you started nicely with key plugins to match your theme choice. There’s also Hostinger Horizons which is a full AI solution. Just enter a few prompts and Hostinger does all the hard work for you. Wait a minute or two and you get an attractive simple website to get you started. It’s a good idea to customise it then so it doesn’t look too generic but it’s ideal for a quick setup.
Bluehost has a similarly clear control panel with a WordPress onboarding process that easily gets you started. As with Hostinger, you can simply upload your website directly but if you want some help then WordPress will create a template via a few prompts and insights you provide. It only took me about a minute and I was soon provided with three sites to choose from. Again, like Hostinger, you’ll want to customise the site to make it more in keeping with your vision but it’s useful to play around with ideas in this way. Another nice touch is how WordPress via Bluehost tailors itself based on your experience with WordPress in the past.
With more general features, both hosts offer all you could need. Besides the plan details mentioned above, both offer free SSL, malware scanning, DDoS protection, and weekly backups. More regular backups can be added for a cost. Bluehost provides Yoast SEO for improved marketing and a free trial of its Pro Email service.
Hostinger offers a similar form of SEO tool and WooCommerce across the board. On Hostinger, you can deploy Node.js web apps on all plans from Business upwards while Bluehost requires you to sign up for its VPS hosting rather than regular web hosting. That won’t be a dealbreaker for everyone but worth considering if it matters to you.
I found myself preferring Hostinger’s control panel compared to Bluehost’s – but that isn’t to say that Bluehost’s is tricky to figure out. It’s just that the Hostinger control panel is that touch more intuitive, giving it an advantage.

Both Hostinger and Bluehost take moments to sign up to. There’s hardly anything between them in terms of how simple they are to use. As with all web hosting plans, it’s worth checking exactly what you need. For some people, a VPS hosting plan may prove more useful than traditional web hosting but both companies tend to make whatever you choose pretty simple to get to grips with.
The little details like finding the right server location for you automatically adds up and it’s never confusing to know what to do next. Hostinger has its own custom hPanel which is very intuitive but Bluehost’s standard interface is still easy enough to figure out.
Refreshingly, setting up a server only took a couple of minutes with both hosts. It only took me under 20 minutes to create something simple yet effective with both sites. Pairing up a domain was very quick as well. Most importantly, Hostinger and Bluehost are both easy to understand even if you haven’t used web hosting services before.
4. Hostinger vs Bluehost: Support

In a continuing trend for many web hosting services, Hostinger and Bluehost both offer AI bots as your first port of call for any issue. Hostinger’s bot is called Kodee while Bluehost has one called Blu. Both are good for solving many simple queries but it’s helpful to know there are alternatives.
Hostinger has a highly extensive knowledge base with a combination of text and video tutorials. Again, that should assist with most issues. There’s no phone support, although you can use Kodee via WhatsApp if you prefer that over a browser. If you ask Kodee to talk to a human, you’ll be transferred to a real person to solve your problem.
Bluehost’s AI bot is certainly helpful but a little slow at times. Fortunately, you can chat to a real tech support person, and the knowledge base is valuable. Best of all, on the pricier plans, you also gain phone support.
Should you get Hostinger or Bluehost?
I’d say that whichever service you choose out of Hostinger and Bluehost, you’re onto a good thing. I prefer Hostinger for its more beginner-friendly features but Bluehost is still very simple to get to grips with. It really comes down to how you plan on designing your site. If you’re ready to upload your previously-made website then either will suit you.
However, if you need the guidance, go with Hostinger. Its AI tools are near unparalleled and very good at supporting your ambitions and website dreams. Still, if you’re looking for something WordPress-based then Bluehost is worth checking out. Its AI tools do a good job of creating a WordPress website and I really appreciated the fact you’re provided with options for the design even before you get into customisation.
When it comes to the essentials, Hostinger and Bluehost have everything covered. They provide a speedy service, both for browsing and for implementing changes. Their control panels are clear and support options work well. Bear in mind for specific needs, you may need to spend more (or consider a VPS plan) but that’s the case with both web hosting companies here. Ultimately, it really does come down to personal taste as to whether you want or need the more advanced AI tools that Hostinger offers as standard.
How Hostinger and Bluehost were tested
To accurately assess which was best between the two web hosting companies, I looked at the following factors:
- Ease of use: I looked at how easy both services were to use. That includes how simple the sign up process was but also how technical language got, and whether beginners to web hosting could still benefit from the service. I also looked to see how easy it is to cancel a subscription or change something on a plan.
- Features: I checked out each web hosting company’s features. I compared them to competitors but also evaluated how well they all work, how clearly each is explained, and determined how relevant they truly are to most people’s needs. I also looked at how useful such features are for more ambitious plans further down the line.
- Value for money: I evaluated if Hostinger and Bluehost offered good value for money and in what way. I looked at their core packages but also considered additional costs that may be incurred. I also considered how long you would need to commit to a plan for the best price.
- Performance: How well your web hosting package runs is vital. I wanted to see how speedy it was to use Hostinger and Bluehost but also to see how well the resulting site worked for others. I also looked at ways in which each web host made it possible to compare speed results so you know exactly what’s going on.
