A massive fire broke out at the Syed Abdullah Shah Institute of Medical Sciences in Sehwan on Sunday, causing extensive damage to the hospital’s dialysis centre and emergency ward.
According to initial reports, the blaze erupted due to a short circuit in the dialysis centre and quickly spread to the adjoining emergency ward. Both units, together comprising 54 beds, were completely gutted in the fire.
Panic spread across the hospital as smoke filled the building, forcing staff and attendants to evacuate patients to safety. “Efforts are underway to control the fire,” hospital administration officials said, adding that rescue and firefighting teams were on the scene.
Patients and their families faced considerable distress amid the chaos, while authorities launched an inquiry into the cause of the incident and the extent of the damage.
