A couple from Salinas, California have reunited with their missing cat after the feline shockingly travelled 900 miles on its own.
Rayne Beau, was on a trip to the Yellowstone National Park with his parents — Benny and Susanne Anguiano — when he was spooked by something and ran straight into the dense bushes and trees, NBC News reports.
The couple spent the rest of the trip searching the forest, desperately scouring for their house cat and laying out his favourite treats and toys, hoping that Rayne Beau would return to them.
Benny told NBC News that by the time their trip had been concluded, their cat was still missing.
Susanne told NBC News affiliate KSBW of Salinas in an interview that they had to leave without Rayne Beau.
“That was the hardest day because I felt like I was abandoning him,” she added.
Weeks later, the couple received a message from a pet microchip registry service, PetWatch, and they had listed their cat’s information and location.
The location was a shelter in Roseville, California, more than 800 miles from Yellowstone, where Rayne Beau had been lost.
The spooked cat was found by a woman in the area, alone in the street and soon realised he was a pet cat and turned him in.
When he was found, he weighed only 8 pounds and about 14 pounds before he ran away.
“He was depleted,” Susanne told KSBW. “He probably didn’t have much energy to even go further.”
Rayne Beau was reunited with his family and home on August 4. He now spends his days playing with his twin sister, eating treats and taking naps.
