Netflix CEO makes strong claims about ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos recently talked about the hype around Barbie<\/i>\u00a0and Oppenheimer<\/i>\u00a0last year.<\/p>\n

In an interview with a New York Times <\/i>reporter, Ted claimed that the movies would\u2019ve \u201cenjoyed just as big an audience\u201d on the streamer as they did in theaters.<\/p>\n

When asked what sort of content sits well with Netflix, he replied, \u201cI don\u2019t think that there\u2019s a clean answer because the best version of something may work really well for Netflix but just hasn\u2019t worked to date. There\u2019s some obvious ones, like we don\u2019t do breaking news and that kind of thing, because I think there\u2019s a lot of other outlets for it. People aren\u2019t looking to us for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The journalist then pointed out the theatrical releases of Barbie<\/i>\u00a0and Oppenheimer<\/i>\u00a0ended up garnering $1.44 billion and $951 million worldwide, respectively. <\/p>\n

\u201cAre there things that just don\u2019t feel like they\u2019re in your wheelhouse right now?\u201d the reporter asked to which Ted replied, \u201cBoth of those movies would be great for Netflix. They definitely would have enjoyed just as big an audience on Netflix.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd so I don\u2019t think there\u2019s any reason to believe that certain kinds of movies do or don\u2019t work. There\u2019s no reason to believe that the movie itself is better in any size of screen for all people,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
