Some doses of Mounjaro have been in shortage since as early as 2022, while doses of Zepbound <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/04\/17\/eli-lillys-zepbound-mounjaro-in-short-supply-through-june-fda-says-.html\">joined the FDA&#8217;s shortage list<\/a> earlier this year following its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/11\/08\/fda-approves-eli-lilly-drug-tirzepatide-for-obesity.html\">U.S. approval<\/a> in November.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Demand for weight loss and diabetes drugs has trounced supply for months, pushing Eli Lilly and its rival <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-6\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/NOVO.B-DK\/\">Novo Nordisk<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> to invest billions to ramp up manufacturing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The FDA&#8217;s update comes one day after Eli Lilly CEO David Ricks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-08-01\/lilly-ceo-says-weight-loss-drug-will-be-off-shortage-very-soon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told Bloomberg<\/a> that the shortages of Mounjaro and Zepbound would end &#8220;very soon.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think actually today or tomorrow we plan to exit that process,&#8221; he told the outlet in an interview.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Eli Lilly did not immediately respond to CNBC&#8217;s request for comment on the FDA&#8217;s update on Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>All doses of Novo Nordisk&#8217;s diabetes injection Ozempic are available in the U.S. as of Friday, according to the FDA&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/scripts\/drugshortages\/dsp_ActiveIngredientDetails.cfm?AI=Semaglutide%20Injection&amp;amp;st=c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">database<\/a>.
