{"id":2423,"date":"2024-09-07T12:48:10","date_gmt":"2024-09-07T12:48:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ventil.rs\/blog\/world\/family-demands-independent-probe-into-killing-of-us-activist-in-west-bank-such-tv\/"},"modified":"2024-09-07T12:48:10","modified_gmt":"2024-09-07T12:48:10","slug":"family-demands-independent-probe-into-killing-of-us-activist-in-west-bank-such-tv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ventil.rs\/blog\/world\/family-demands-independent-probe-into-killing-of-us-activist-in-west-bank-such-tv\/","title":{"rendered":"Family demands independent probe into killing of US activist in West Bank &#8211; SUCH TV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The family of a Turkish-American activist shot and killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank urged the United States to launch an independent inquiry into her killing, saying an Israeli probe was not \u201cadequate\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, 26, was shot by an Israeli soldier while taking part in a demonstration against illegal Israeli settlements near the West Bank village of Beita, near the city of Nablus, on Friday, according to witnesses and local authorities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An autopsy confirmed that Eygi, who died of her wounds at a Nablus hospital, was killed by a sniper bullet to the head, Nablus Governor Ghassan Daghlas told media on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nablus, the governorate where Beita is located, will hold an official ceremony commemorating Eygi after her body is handed to her family, said Daghlas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cA US citizen, Aysenur was peacefully standing for justice when she was killed,\u201d said her family in a statement on Saturday, describing her as a \u201cfiercely passionate human rights activist\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHer presence in our lives was taken needlessly, unlawfully and violently by the Israeli military,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Responding to Eygi\u2019s killing, the Israeli military said its forces had fired towards \u201ca main instigator of violent activity who hurled rocks\u201d at them during a protest, and that it was looking into reports that a foreign national was killed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Eygi was a member of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), a pro-Palestinian organisation.
