Net profit increased 43%, coming in at 39.2 million kroner.<\/p>\n<p>The company&#8217;s diabetes and obesity division performed particularly well, bolstered by interest in its blockbuster injection Wegovy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"Placeholder-ArticleBody-Video-107215356\">\n<div role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" id=\"Placeholder-ArticleBody-Video-107215356\" class=\"PlaceHolder-wrapper\" data-vilynx-id=\"7000291811\" data-test=\"VideoPlaceHolder\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-videoEmbed\" id=\"InlineVideo-0\" data-test=\"InlineVideo\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-inlineThumbnailContainer\"><span class=\"InlineVideo-videoButton\"\/><span\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>&#8220;The [sales] growth is driven by increasing demand for our GLP-1-based diabetes and obesity treatments, and we are serving more patients than ever before,&#8221; Lars Fruergaard J\u00f8rgensen, president and CEO, said in a statement. &#8220;The performance in the first six months has enabled us to raise the outlook for the full year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For 2023, the company now anticipates sales growth of 27%-33% and operating profit growth of 31%-37%, at constant exchange rates.<\/p>\n<p>Last week,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/08\/08\/wegovy-novo-nordisk-shares-pop-after-trial-data-exceeds-expectations.html\">late-stage trial data<\/a> showed that Wegovy reduced the risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attacks or strokes by 20%, compared with a placebo, sending shares higher.<\/p>\n<p>The results of the closely watched &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.novonordisk.com\/content\/nncorp\/global\/en\/news-and-media\/news-and-ir-materials\/news-details.html?id=166301\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SELECT<\/a>&#8221; trial, which exceeded expectations, were seen as a major boost for the company&#8217;s hopes of moving beyond Wegovy&#8217;s image as a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/07\/26\/obesity-drug-wegovy-launches-in-germany-but-costs-waits-weigh-heavy.html\">vanity drug<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The active ingredient in Wegovy is semaglutide, an FDA-approved drug that works by imitating a naturally-occurring gut hormone that helps to regulate appetite.<\/p>\n<p>Shares are up almost 1% in pre-market trading.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014<em> Sam Meredith contributed to this report.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/08\/10\/wegovy-maker-novo-nordisk-sales-soar-30percent-on-strong-demand-for-its-weight-loss-drug.html\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A selection of injector pens for the Saxenda weight loss drug are shown in this photo illustration in Chicago, Illinois, U.S., March 31, 2023.\u00a0 Jim Vondruska | Reuters Novo Nordisk, which makes the weight-loss drug Wegovy, raised its outlook for 2023 Thursday, as it reported soaring sales.
