The sudden reduction in blood flow can cause severe pain, tissue damage, and, if not treated promptly, permanent disability or amputation.<\/p>\n<p>Causes of acute limb ischemia:<\/p>\n<p>Blood clots (thrombosis): A clot forming in an already narrowed artery can suddenly block blood flow.<\/p>\n<p>Embolism: A clot or debris from the heart or another part of the body travels through the bloodstream and lodges in a limb artery.
