From flag-filled tributes and nostalgic messages to calls for change, stars share their thoughts on August 14<\/p>\n

As Pakistan celebrated its 80th Independence Day on Friday, celebrities across the country took to social media to share messages of patriotism, pride and hope.<\/p>\n

While many posts celebrated the national spirit with flags, green-and-white tributes and heartfelt wishes, some stars used the occasion to look beyond the festivities and reflect on the challenges facing Pakistan today.<\/p>\n

From political tensions and questions surrounding governance to concerns over violence against women and children, their posts highlighted a more critical side of the country\u2019s Independence Day conversation.<\/p>\n

Amid the celebrations, these voices raised an important question: what does freedom mean when so many Pakistanis continue to struggle for safety, justice and basic rights?<\/p>\n

Actor Shuja Asad shared pictures of himself dressed in Muhammad Ali Jinnah\u2019s iconic suit-and-tie attire, posing in a style reminiscent of the country\u2019s founder.<\/p>\n

\u201cPakistan, despite everything, you remain my home, my land and a part of who I am. We may be frustrated by the times we\u2019re living through, but our love for this country is bigger than any government or difficult chapter. I still believe in our people and in Pakistan we can build together,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

Sharing a quote from Allama Iqbal, he added, \u201cMay we find the courage, unity and leadership to build the Pakistan we dream of,\u201d while also saying, \u201cAnd yes, consider this my little nod to the Quaid\u2019s timeless style.\u201d<\/p>\n

Actor Reema Khan also marked the occasion in a white floral shalwar kameez paired with a green dupatta.<\/p>\n

\u201cMay Allah grant peace and prosperity to our beloved country Pakistan. Bless us with unity and progress. Let’s meet our great leaders and remember the sacrifices of the martyrs and together build a brighter, stronger one,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Hina Altaf posed in a white shalwar kameez and green dupatta, writing, \u201cHappy Independence Day to everyone. Celebrating independence and standing with fellow Kashmiris today as well. Freedom is incomplete until it\u2019s shared by all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zubab Rana echoed the green-and-white theme in a plain white shalwar kameez with a dark green dupatta while holding the national flag. \u201cLet\u2019s keep the spirit of freedom alive in our hearts and minds,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Danish Taimoor shared a picture of himself with the national flag alongside a lengthy reflection on Pakistan\u2019s challenges and achievements.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe complain about Pakistan. We argue about what needs to change. We get frustrated, disappointed, and sometimes even lose hope. But at the end of the day\u2026 this is home,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cLess hate. More respect. Less division. More unity. Less \u2018what has Pakistan given me?\u2019 and more \u2018what can I give back?\u2019 We have a long way to go, but I\u2019ll never stop believing in this country and its people. We are Pakistan. And Pakistan is us,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Actor Aiman Khan posted a video of herself wearing a green-and-white jersey and singing along to a national song, simply writing, \u201cHappy Birthday Pakistan.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yasir Hussain celebrated Pakistan\u2019s natural beauty through a series of pictures featuring mountains, animals, locals and sunsets. \u201cMay the moon keep sparkling. May this flag be our highest,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

Actors Zara Noor Abbas and Asad Siddiqui celebrated the night with their family while watching fireworks.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether we are free or not, this is a different debate. But we are on our land. We are in our country. No one can escape us from here because of the \u2018foreign\u2019 passport. Our house. Nobody can snatch my identity from me,\u201d Siddiqui wrote.<\/p>\n

Faisal Quraishi also shared pictures of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal.<\/p>\n

\u201cMay the spirit of freedom, unity, and patriotism always inspire us to build a stronger and more prosperous Pakistan. Wishing you and your loved ones peace, happiness, and success,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

Pakistani cricketers also joined the Independence Day celebrations, sharing pictures featuring the national flag and their cricket gear.<\/p>\n

Babar Azam posted a picture of himself waving the flag at a stadium.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday’s day is dedicated to the flag whose star adorns our chest, then our identity is complete. Long live Pakistan!\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

Shahid Afridi shared a picture from his recent visit to the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy blood, my soul, and every heartbeat belongs to this sacred soil. Nothing gives me greater pride than standing under our green flag. Pakistan is my identity, my strength, and my whole life,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

While many celebrities celebrated Pakistan\u2019s Independence Day with messages of patriotism, others used the occasion to draw attention to political and safety concerns, particularly amid ongoing concerns over violence, assault and murder.<\/p>\n

Actor Hina Khawaja questioned the need for celebration amid what she described as political and safety concerns.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow can we celebrate 14th August? We used to wake up in the mornings to see the parade and visit Quaid-e-Azam\u2019s mazaar, and tell our kids in schools how we gained this freedom and who was behind this. Who were the leaders and common people who left behind a lot in order to gain these rights for us and the future people,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Khawaja added, \u201cHowever, today I see videos of people dancing and celebrating that freedom. If you leave your house, it is not the same. It is not the same freedom if small kids are being raped and parents are taking their children to the graves where no justice is being served.\u201d<\/p>\n

Actors Iqra Aziz and Sonya Hussain similarly used their platforms to question the nature of the celebrations.<\/p>\n

Aziz shared statistics about recent killings in the country following the night\u2019s celebrations, while Hussain questioned whether celebrating alone was enough when meaningful change was still needed.<\/p>\n

However, August 14 remains a day of pride, patriotism and remembrance \u2014 an opportunity to celebrate the sacrifices that led to the creation of Pakistan and reaffirm the connection to the country.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
