Sign up for the Style Memo newsletter.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\" dir=\"null\">Bryan Fuller, a producer and writer behind shows such as \u201cHannibal\u201d and \u201cAmerican Gods,\u201d has been accused in a lawsuit of sexually harassing and assaulting a colleague while working as a director on last year\u2019s docuseries \u201cQueer for Fear.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\" dir=\"null\">Sam Wineman, a producer on the series, sued Fuller in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday for sexual harassment, retaliation, emotional distress and other alleged workplace violations between 2020 and 2022. Wineman is also seeking damages from AMC Networks, Shudder, Steakhaus Productions and other potentially liable parties, claiming they ignored his concerns and enabled Fuller\u2019s behavior.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\" dir=\"null\">Wineman alleges that Fuller sexually assaulted him \u201cseveral times,\u201d including once<b> <\/b>pressing his penis against Wineman\u2019s buttocks. The complaint also claims Fuller spoke of his genitalia and masturbation habits so often<b> <\/b>that it \u201cbecame a running theme among employees.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\" dir=\"null\">Wineman said a Steakhaus employee removed him from working on the show in August 2021, after he reported Fuller\u2019s behavior and comments to an AMC and Shudder executive, and that other employees who supported him were fired.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\" dir=\"null\">A four-episode documentary that examines the relationship between the LGBTQ+ community and the horror genre, \u201cQueer for Fear\u201d premiered on Shudder last year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\" dir=\"null\">Fuller has worked on several \u201cStar Trek\u201d projects, and gained fame for creating a string of shows that amassed cult followings and critical acclaim in 2000s, including \u201cPushing Daisies\u201d and \u201cWonderfalls.\u201d His best known series may be \u201cHannibal,\u201d a gruesome, surreal adaptation of Thomas Harris novels featuring the serial killer Hannibal Lecter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\" dir=\"null\"><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2021\/06\/stephen-king-christine-remake-bryan-fuller-sony-pictures-blumhouse-1234771228\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deadline<\/a> announced in 2021 that Fuller was going to direct a reboot of Stephen King\u2019s \u201cChristine,\u201d from Sony Pictures and Blumhouse, but it\u2019s unclear if the project is still underway. Neither company responded to a request for comment about the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\" dir=\"null\">Fuller\u2019s attorney, Bryan Freedman, didn\u2019t respond to The Washington Post\u2019s request for comment Friday, but he denied the lawsuit\u2019s claims in a statement to <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2023\/10\/bryan-fuller-sued-sexual-harassment-queer-for-fear-amc-shudder-1235565175\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deadline<\/a> and said Wineman would soon be sued for defamation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\" dir=\"null\">\u201cThere is documented evidence which completely disproves the allegations,\u201d he said. \u201cWineman created this fictitious story long after his gross incompetence necessitated his removal in an effort to extort AMC, Shudder, Steakhaus and Bryan Fuller. He never raised any allegation of wrongdoing prior to his removal because he knew that this was absolute garbage. Sam Wineman just made the biggest mistake of his life and once the evidence comes out, he will forever be known as a pathological liar.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\" dir=\"null\">Wineman is best known for directing the 2018 horror short film \u201cThe Quiet Room.\u201d His attorneys didn\u2019t immediately respond to a request for comment. An AMC spokesperson said on Friday that the company was still reviewing the complaint and didn\u2019t have an immediate comment.
