\n Novak Djokovic\u2019s <\/a>straight-sets victory over Cameron Norrie in the Italian Open<\/a> boiled over when the British tennis star hit the back of the world No. 1\u2019s leg with a smash.\n <\/p>\n

\n The incident occurred at the start of the second set<\/a> and despite an instant apology from Norrie, Djokovic did not respond well, proceeding to stare down his opponent.\n <\/p>\n

\n The stare from Djokovic kept going as he walked towards the net before offering a verbal rebuttal to the British No. 1.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cMaybe you could say he didn\u2019t hit me deliberately,\u201d Djokovic told reporters after his 6-3 6-4 win in the round of 16.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI don\u2019t know if he saw me. I mean \u2026 you can always see where the player is positioned on the court.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Djokovic added that he wasn\u2019t altogether enamored with Norrie\u2019s behavior in general throughout the match.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cIt was not so much maybe about that, but it was maybe a combination of things,\u201d said the 35-year-old Djokovic.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cHe was doing all the things that we\u2019re allowed. He\u2019s allowed to take a medical timeout. He\u2019s allowed to hit a player. He\u2019s allowed to say \u2018come on\u2019 in the face more or less every single point from basically first game.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThose are the things that we players know in the locker room it\u2019s not fair play, it\u2019s not how we treat each other. But, again, it\u2019s allowed.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n However, Djokovic didn\u2019t let his unhappiness with Norrie impact his form on the court as he eased towards a place in the Italian Open quarterfinals.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cHe brought the fire, and I responded to that. I\u2019m not going to allow someone behaving like this just bending my head. I\u2019m going to respond to that,\u201d added the 22-time grand slam winner.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI got along with Cameron really well all these years that he\u2019s been on the tour. Practised with each other. He\u2019s a very nice guy off the court, so I don\u2019t understand this kind of attitude on the court, to be honest.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n A representative of Norrie told CNN that the world No. 13 had no comment on Djokovic\u2019s post-game remarks.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
