Giancarlo Esposito recalls financial struggles before ‘Breaking Bad’

Giancarlo Esposito revealed the extreme financial distress he faced prior to landing his breakthrough role in the Breaking Bad.

During a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s Jim & Sam Show, the 65-year-old actor opened up for the first time about his struggle to get a steady flow of cash.

Resorting to extreme measures, the actor shared, “My way out in my brain was, ‘Hey, do you get life insurance if someone commits suicide?’” while implying that he began contemplating insurance fraud to at least provide financial security to his children.

However, it was the afterthought of this dreadful act that pulled him back from the trance.

The Gentlemen actor explained that while ‘self-annihilation’ seemed like the only solution at the time, he eventually realized the impact it would have on his children, leaving them traumatized for generations to come.

“The light at the end of the tunnel was Breaking Bad”, Esposito admitted.

The father of four secured his iconic role of The Chicken Guy, Gustavo ‘Gus’ Fring, in the acclaimed TV show in 2008 and later in its spin-off series Better Call Saul in 2015, collectively earning him three Emmy nominations.
