March 2025 Partial Solar Eclipse: The first solar eclipse of 2025 is set to take place on March 29. This will be a partial eclipse which means the Sun, Moon and Earth will not be perfectly aligned. As a result, only a portion of the Sun will be covered that will make it appear as if a piece has been taken out of it. Unlike a total solar eclipse, the Sun will not be completely covered, so proper eye protection will be necessary throughout the event.

Here are the timings of the partial solar eclipse:
- Begin Time: 4:50 AM EDT (2:20 PM IST).
- Peak Time: 6:47 AM EDT (4:17 PM IST)
- End Time: 8:43 AM EDT (6:13 PM IST).
March 2025 Partial Solar Eclipse: Where Will It Be Visible?
- The eclipse will be most visible in Eastern and Northern Canada where up to 93.1% of the Sun will be covered especially in Northern Quebec.
- The northeastern United States will also witness a a major eclipse with about 85% of the Sun covered.
- A shallower partial eclipse will be visible in parts of Europe, the Caribbean, Africa and Siberia.
- Reykjavik, Iceland, will have one of the lowest coverage levels with around 66% of the Sun blocked.
- In North and South America, the eclipse will already be in progress at sunrise.
- Western Europe and northwestern Africa will see it in the mid-to-late morning while in eastern Europe and northern Asia, it will occur in the afternoon or early evening.

The partial solar eclipse will not be visible from India as the Moon’s shadow will not pass over the region during the event.

Solar Eclipse 2025: How To Safely View Surya Grahan
As per NASA, here are some important safety guidelines to follow while viewing the partial solar eclipse:
- Use Proper Eye Protection: Always wear eclipse glasses or a safe handheld solar viewer while watching the eclipse. Regular sunglasses even dark ones are not safe as they do not block enough sunlight. Only use solar viewers that meet the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard.
- Do Not Look Through Optical Devices: Do not look at the Sun through a camera lens, telescope, binoculars or any optical device while wearing eclipse glasses. The concentrated rays can burn through the filter and cause serious eye injuries. Use a special-purpose solar filter to observe the Sun safely.
- Use Indirect Viewing Methods: If you don’t have eclipse glasses, use a pinhole projector to project the Sun’s image onto a surface. Do not look through the pinhole directly. Tree leaves can also create natural pinhole projections of the eclipse on the ground.
